My 1st ever blog post!

Isn’t this just the coolest thing ever! Never would I have imagined to get a brave enough heart to go ahead and start up a little blog. Anyways, let’s cut to the chase.

My name is Erica Manzella and I’m a half Sicilian girl from the south, Alabama to be exact (Roll tide!) I’m 20 years young and as July rolls around, I’ll become “legal” as I turn 21 on July 10th. I haven’t exactly decided what I’d like to do for my birthday yet, but whatever I decide to do, I’m sure it’ll be so much fun. I have 2 dogs, one is a German Shepherd and the other is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I’m sure everyone will see those two crazy pups of mine a LOT on this blog because they are the funniest little creatures. I also have a few cats who I love with all my heart. You could just assume that I’m an animal lover!

I work at a law firm in downtown Birmingham and I love it. All of my attorneys are the sweetest people you could possibly meet. They treat me with the utmost respect and I give them the same respect that they give me.

I never went to college. I did attend a Dental Assisting program at Jefferson State Community College but that’s about how far I went with my education after high school. After I got my Dental Assisting certificate, I lost all interest in the dental field. It just wasn’t for me! You might be asking why I never went to college to get some kind of degree, the answer is simple to me….. I’m simply not a school person. I’ve never been the type that likes to sit down in a classroom for a  while and hear someone talk about one topic the whole hour and a half. I’m not ashamed of myself for not going to college because this is what I wanted. I’m very proud of myself and all the accomplishments I’ve made throughout my life. If you’re anything like me, trust me when I say this, you’ll find your way through life. I’ve got a job that you probably need an associates degree or a higher degree. I’m learning legal stuff on the job, which is how I like to learn. I’m planning on working my way up in the firm I work in. If not, I could go to another office and do the same thing. I’ll never give up on making my future bright.

Well, I’ll confess, I don’t have a boyfriend! I’m proud of it too! I’m just not ready to deal with all of that just yet. I’m not the type of person that must have a guy to lean on all the time. I’m not one who must have a guy because my friends might have one. I just don’t want to have a boyfriend.

I love photography! I like to take pictures of flowers, my animals, and just the scenery around me. I could tell my life story through the pictures I take.

That’s about as much as I can think of right now for my first blog post. I’m going to post some pictures of my dogs, my family, and myself below. I hope everybody enjoys my posts and I’ll see you guys soon!

  4. Nice! It’s okay not to go to a four-year college. My youngest daughter is a dental assistant and she makes a great salary — comparable to her sister who has a four-year degree and a post-graduate degree. It’s about doing something that brings you joy and working with people you like and respect. Love your blog, Lil’ Cuz and the pics, especially of your dog!

  5. How nice to ‘meet’ you, Erica. I like your unconventional approach to life and to your blog. You are obviously a bright and savvy young person–and, it shocks me to realize, because we both have birthdays in early July,–almost exactly 40 years younger than I!

I am a college manager-type, and my husband went to law school in his late forties, so I would just say this: enjoy what you’re doing, do what you love, and don’t rule college out down the line—there’s no right time to attend. (I have to say, too, as one of five siblings, four of whom attended college–it’s the one who didn’t who had the best income…that’s a little ironic, eh?)

All the best–I look forward to reading your future posts.

    1. It is a pleasure to meet you as well! Thank you so much for all the kind and sweet words. Here lately, I’ve been meeting more and more people with July birthdays, which is awesome. I’ve always said to myself to never rule college out. I’ve been thinking of attending a photography class. So college is never ruled out for me.

Again, thank you so much for the kind and sweet words. Also, thank you for reading my blog! I look forward to reading your posts as well.
